Description
The “TSP Solo” 1x Guitar Speaker Extension Cabinet Chassis accommodates a 12″ and/or 10″ guitar speaker baffle. The “TSP” stands for our built-in “Tone Swap Platform” which facilitates swapping/upgrading/replacing baffles, backplates, guitar speakers (from the front or back), and even grill cloth. Tone hounds will prefer this freedom to experiment with, customize, or repair/replace parts in this cabinet platform: rather than to having to replace the whole cab.
Small Footprint
A lightweight and compact 16″* w/h and 9″* depth, the Solo will take up less space in the studio, on the road or airplane. The 4 ribbed, stackable, top corner pieces are the same height as this cabinet’s top plastic strap handle with steel reinforcement – that collapses flat to 5mm tall: So you can save even more space by stacking on top of it other running electronics with a flat bottom, or feet.
Mini Amp Head
For example, the feet of your mini or micro guitar amp head will likely be taller than 5mm. If the width between the outside edges of the bottom rubber feet on your mini or micro head is 16″* or less, you should be able to set it on top of this cabinet, The head unit’s edges may hang off the edges of this cabinet if the actual head unit’s outside width is is greater than 16″*.
Tone Swap Platform (TSP) features:
The Tone Swap Platform (TSP) is not just extensible because it expedites swapping speakers with or without their baffles until you get the tone you are after. It also accommodates the different levels of woodworking knowledge, ability, and desire among players and builders of amplifiers and cabinets. Woodworkers can save money by selecting “Do it yourself”, or DIY options, which are represented by the base price listed here. Those who would rather pay for a finished product can select their trim level, and have it delivered with one of a wide choice of (in stock) Celestion guitar speakers installed: Saving them time and hassle. All customers benefit from having the option of replacement parts that are designed to fit with what acoustic engineers refer to as a “light fit”: Meaning that the cabinets is not water or air tight, but light does not shine through it’s fittings.
Hardware
The chassis comes with:
- 8 Ribbed, stackable, durable, and rugged plastic corner pieces
- 10″ top plastic strap handle with steel reinforcement
- 4 rubber feet – Non-marking with metal washer that helps eliminate over-tightening. 1&1/8″ diameter x 1/2″ height.
- and is secured with lap joints, wood bracing & glue. Select the “Roadie” trim-level option to upgrade to the from wood glue and nails up to epoxy- to better secure the chassis itself.
Modular
Removable Phillips-head wood screws (or T-Nuts and bolts w/ the “Studio” upgrade) fasten:
- Grill/Screen – So you can upgrade your baffle & grill cloth later as styles change.
- Baffle – so you can swap a 12″ speaker and baffle for a 10″ speaker and baffle.
- Guitar Speaker – using 4 of the holes
- Middle Back Plate – so you can swap between open and closed back mode.
Swapable..
..meaning that swapping speakers, baffles, and backplates is more easily accommodated:
Whether you want to install or replace guitar speakers from the front or back of the cabinet:
- No need to remove the back plates of the open back model.
- We follow Celestion’s specifications to accommodate their speaker’s diameter in our baffles.
- Speakers are optionally installed with or unit optionally ships with T-nuts and bolts to secure Speakers to the baffle.
- We prefer installing them from the back for you so that the cork on the Celestion speaker lip is secured against the inside of our baffle.
Upgradable
The optional “Studio” trim level upgrade has tone-philes and audio-philes in mind. It includes:
- 4 tee nuts w/ bolts – to better secure and more easily and repeatedly remove and replace guitar speakers.
- Tee nuts w/ bolts secure the grill, baffle, and optional middle backpiece.
- CSS (Crimp Solder Seal) Slip-on connector installed on 16 gage dual-lead speaker wire.
- Soldered Jack Rean
Back Panels
The Tone Swap Platform (TSP) allows you to mount your guitar speakers to the front or rear of the baffle. This way you can remove and replace your guitar speakers from the rear if you select an open-back option. Also, if you prefer closed back, you can mount, remove, and replace your guitars speakers from the front – after removing the Grill Cloth Frame from the Baffle.
Lead Guitar Players usually prefer an open back 1×12 guitar speaker cabinet. Metal players however, may prefer to install one 150W Celestion Redback in a closed back design, creating a lightweight emulation of a 2 or 4×12 cabinet.
Innovative
Our “Black” finish option refers to an exterior finish of Black Textured Protective Coating for Speaker Enclosures (TPC4SE) – which is an innovative, hard, and resilient finish that creates a durable and weather resistant coating. It will not tear, become unglued, or un-stapled over time like Tolex or Leatherette may. If you have or want a custom Tolex or Leatherette, you can order our “Naked” trim level and DIY.
Quality Materials
The cabinet chassis is upgrade-able to Baltic Birch (Prefinished 13-Ply, 3/4″, 18mm), but is otherwise constructed with 3/4″* Pine 7-ply wood with an A-grade side for you to paint the exterior. The Baltic Birch features a solid Birch core and Birch veneers, which have few knots, and those are wooden patched instead of filled w/ putty like the imperfections on the 7-ply Pine.
Durable Portability
Unlike many manufacturers, we do not use any kind of particle board or mdf, as these fare poorly in the weather and/or at gigs or on the road since they can lose their shape, structural integrity, and strength if they get wet. Beware as these manufacturers will advertise their “plywood baffle” while using structurally weaker materials elsewhere throughout the chassis. Pine or other types on non plywood are not indicated for portable speaker enclosures because they are only strong against the grain of the wood. The wood can split around fasteners, or under pressure applied with the grain of the wood. Plywood prevents these issues because the grain of each ply or layer of plywood runs opposite to the ply to which it is adhered. Members of our design team have loaded vans after gigs and understand how equipment gets stacked and, occasionally (please don’t).. stood on.
