You can upgrade and/or swap out Back-Panels using the wood-screws (or tee nuts available with the “Studio” trim) that fasten them to the cabinet chassis. | No back panels or 1/4" Jack (DIY) – size, cut, and fasten custom back-paneling to your own back-panel bracing. | No back panels or 1/4" Jack (DIY) – size, cut, and fasten custom back-paneling to our back-panel bracing. | Closed Back (Full-Back) - Installed single panel. Closed-Back with one single back-piece. | Closed Back (Full-Back) - Uninstalled single panel...if you have time and carpentry tools and skills. | Open Back- Installed top and bottom panel – The open-back design option below features a rear top back panel just tall enough to accommodate it's centered 1/4 Jack. The bottom back panel is similarly sized, in order to ease speaker swapping, while also keeping any cords or cables from falling out during transport. | Open/Closed Back (Switch-Back)- Installed all 3 panels, w/ removable middle panel allows you to remove and replace the middle back panel with wood screws or upgrade to tee-nuts in order to facilitate alternating your TSP cabinet between a closed and open-back design. | Uninstalled middle panel for Switch-Back – You can buy this part as a replacement or to convert your TSP Solo Open-Back into a Switch-Back. ----- If you are selecting from below as a part order, please let us know in the “Order notes” if you would like the ¼ Jack installed for $20.
Grill
The Grill-Frame that the Grill-Cloth is stapled to is wood-screwed to the baffle. This allows the baffle to be removable/replaceable. When you replace your Baffle, you can re-use your grill cloth – as it is adhered to the Grill Frame – and it is not ruined by pulling or cutting the Grill Cloth off the Baffle. These options may also be ordered as replacement/upgrade parts.
Baffle & Ply
The cabinet chassis and panels are upgrade-able to Baltic Birch (Prefinished 13-Ply, 3/4", 18mm), but otherwise are constructed with 3/4"* Pine 7-ply wood with an A-grade side for you to paint the exterior. The Baltic Birch features a solid Birch (almost voidless) core and Birch veneers, which have few knots, and those are wooden patched instead of filled w/ putty like the imperfections on the 7-ply Pine. Baffles are the wooden front panel with the big hole that holds the speaker in the cabinet. Our Baffles are CNC-machined to allow for front or rear speaker mounting. Select below which type of wood for your 12" or 10" baffle and/or other panels such as the cabinet chassis and back panels.
Finish
Finish (1) Naked – DIY finish or no finish on our unfinished wood. Baltic Birch should more readily accommodate your DIY stain or clear-coat, but 3/4"* 7-ply can be upholstered, painted, or given an exterior finish. We will ship the 4 rubber feet, 8 corner pieces, and top handle uninstalled but with hardware fasteners (for your selected trim option below) for your DIY installation after you finish the cab. ---- The following are options for having us finish the cabinet for you. We will do that in such a way that the finish should not adhere independently removable panels such as baffles and/or back-pieces. ---- (2) Clear – Clear Polyurethane Seal – This clear coat is necessary to protect this portable wooden cabinet from moisture if you are not going to finish it yourself. It will also make the exterior easier to clean by preventing some degree of stain, soil, and moisture penetration. We sand the first coat before applying the second and third. (3) Clear + Interior - Unless your cab is going to remain in an air-conditioned or otherwise dehumidified room, you will want the inside or interior of it also sealed. Especially if you may transport it or gig with it. We will also paint the Baffle black to match your Grill Cloth unless you request otherwise in the “order notes”. (4) Black – If you know your are going to transport or gig with it, or you want to be prepared for that, consider the exterior finish of Black Textured Protective Coating for Speaker Enclosures (TPC4SE) - which is an innovative and durable hard finish with a leather look, similar to Leatherette or Tolex. This "Black" option will better protect your cab from stains, scratches, finger/foot prints, and rain when loading up after a gig. (5) Black + Interior – we will also paint the interior of the cabinet black so it can look good on stage when you are running it open-back. This should also decrease dust, mold, and mildew problems. We will spray paint the Baffle black to match your Grill Cloth unless you request otherwise in the “order notes”.
Trim Level
Trim Level (1) Standard – Chassis secured with: +4 wood joints that are a hybrid of lap joints and biscuits +Wood bracing wood-glued to machined-to-fit wooden dowel pins -Removable Philips-head wood-screws secure grill frame, baffle, guitar speaker, and removable middle back-piece if that option is selected. -8 Ribbed, stack-able, durable, and rugged plastic corner pieces allow cabinets to stack on top of each-other w/ locking fit. -4 rubber feet – Non-marking with metal washer that helps eliminate over-tightening. 1 1/8" diameter x 1/2" height. -10" top plastic strap handle with steel reinforcement. -Enough length on the 16 Gage speaker wire to remove your speaker while connected, or connect before installing. -1 1/4" Jack w/ round black metal jack plate. (2) The "Studio" trim level upgrade includes the "Standard" trim level as well as the following: -tee nuts w/ bolts for baffle, guitar speaker, and removable middle back-piece if that option is selected. -CSS (Crimp Solder Seal) Slip-on connector installed on 16-gauge speaker wire. -Soldered 1/4" Jack terminals (3) Select the "Roadie" trim-level option to upgrade to the from wood glue and nails (long high-quality staples) up to epoxy – to better secure the chassis itself for life on the road. This trim-level includes the previous "Studio" trim level upgrades.
Guitar Speakers
If you are looking to order in quantity, or for New-In-Box speakers, please let us know in the order notes after selecting your preferred speaker model below. We can check pricing and availability for you. We will install Celestion guitar speakers at no charge. We also offer discounted open-box Celestion guitar speakers that have passed our 8-point structural, functional, electronic, and cosmetic inspection. They have been stored in their box in a temperature and humidity controlled environment to limit exposure to dust and moisture. They are available in stock for most models listed below. Any of them will only add $50 to your purchase, regardless of which model you select.
Additional Baffle
This option allows you to buy and use both a 1x12" and a 1x10" baffle – interchangeably. That way you would be able to lighten your load to a 10" guitar speaker or power up to a 12" speaker in your Solo cabinet. As part of the forward-thinking Tone Swap Platform (TSP), we have simplified for you the process of later swapping baffles, especially if you want to leave your guitar speakers in them. Just remove and replace with its Phillip's head wood screws, (or tee-nuts and bolts- included with the "Studio" trim). To purchase a replacement baffle, or purchase one singly, please specify the finish for it in the “order notes” as naked ($0), clear polyurethane ($30), or black to signify black spray paint ($20).
Thank you for using our online cabinet builder. Please verify that you successfully checkout with your desired options so that we can reply to your email with any clarifications toward estimating your project timeline and creating your invoice which will include shipping charges within continental contiguous United States.

Description

The “TSP Solo” 1x Guitar Speaker Extension Cabinet Chassis accommodates a 12″ and/or 10″ guitar speaker baffle. The “TSP” stands for our built-in “Tone Swap Platform” which facilitates swapping/upgrading/replacing baffles, backplates, guitar speakers (from the front or back), and even grill cloth.  Tone hounds will prefer this freedom to experiment with, customize, or repair/replace parts in this cabinet platform:  rather than to having to replace the whole cab.

Small Footprint

A lightweight and compact 16″* w/h and 9″* depth, the Solo will take up less space in the studio, on the road or airplane.  The 4 ribbed, stackable, top corner pieces are the same height as this cabinet’s top plastic strap handle with steel reinforcement – that collapses flat to 5mm tall:  So you can save even more space by stacking on top of it other running electronics with a flat bottom, or feet.

Mini Amp Head

For example, the feet of your mini or micro guitar amp head will likely be taller than 5mm.  If the width between the outside edges of the bottom rubber feet on your mini or micro head is 16″* or less, you should be able to set it on top of this cabinet, The head unit’s edges may hang off the edges of this cabinet if the actual head unit’s outside width is is greater than 16″*.

Tone Swap Platform (TSP) features:

The Tone Swap Platform (TSP) is not just extensible because it expedites swapping speakers with or without their baffles until you get the tone you are after.  It also accommodates the different levels of woodworking knowledge, ability, and desire among players and builders of amplifiers and cabinets.  Woodworkers can save money by selecting “Do it yourself”, or DIY options, which are represented by the base price listed here.  Those who would rather pay for a finished product can select their trim level, and have it delivered with one of a wide choice of (in stock) Celestion guitar speakers installed: Saving them time and hassle.  All customers benefit from having the option of replacement parts that are designed to fit with what acoustic engineers refer to as a “light fit”:  Meaning that the cabinets is not water or air tight, but light does not shine through it’s fittings.

Hardware

The chassis comes with:

  1. 8 Ribbed, stackable, durable, and rugged plastic corner pieces
  2. 10″ top plastic strap handle with steel reinforcement
  3. 4 rubber feet – Non-marking with metal washer that helps eliminate over-tightening.  1&1/8″ diameter x 1/2″ height.
  4. and is secured with lap joints, wood bracing & glue.  Select the “Roadie” trim-level option to upgrade to the from wood glue and nails up to epoxy- to better secure the chassis itself.

Modular

Removable Phillips-head wood screws (or T-Nuts and bolts w/ the “Studio” upgrade) fasten:

  1. Grill/Screen – So you can upgrade your baffle & grill cloth later as styles change.
  2. Baffle – so you can swap a 12″ speaker and baffle for a 10″ speaker and baffle.
  3. Guitar Speaker – using 4 of the holes
  4. Middle Back Plate – so you can swap between open and closed back mode.

Swapable..

..meaning that swapping speakers, baffles, and backplates is more easily accommodated:

Whether you want to install or replace guitar speakers from the front or back of the cabinet:

  1. No need to remove the back plates of the open back model.
  2. We follow Celestion’s specifications to accommodate their speaker’s diameter in our baffles.
  3. Speakers are optionally installed with or unit optionally ships with T-nuts and bolts to secure Speakers to the baffle.
  4. We prefer installing them from the back for you so that the cork on the Celestion speaker lip is secured against the inside of our baffle.

Upgradable

The optional “Studio” trim level upgrade has tone-philes and audio-philes in mind.  It includes:

  1. 4 tee nuts w/ bolts – to better secure and more easily and repeatedly remove and replace guitar speakers.
  2. Tee nuts w/ bolts secure the grill, baffle, and optional middle backpiece.
  3. CSS (Crimp Solder Seal) Slip-on connector installed on 16 gage dual-lead speaker wire.
  4. Soldered Jack Rean

Back Panels
The Tone Swap Platform (TSP) allows you to mount your guitar speakers to the front or rear of the baffle. This way you can remove and replace your guitar speakers from the rear if you select an open-back option. Also, if you prefer closed back, you can mount, remove, and replace your guitars speakers from the front – after removing the Grill Cloth Frame from the Baffle.

Lead Guitar Players usually prefer an open back 1×12 guitar speaker cabinet. Metal players however, may prefer to install one 150W Celestion Redback in a closed back design, creating a lightweight emulation of a 2 or 4×12 cabinet.

Innovative

Our “Black” finish option refers to an exterior finish of Black Textured Protective Coating for Speaker Enclosures (TPC4SE) – which is an innovative, hard, and resilient finish that creates a durable and weather resistant coating.  It will not tear, become unglued, or un-stapled over time like Tolex or Leatherette may. If you have or want a custom Tolex or Leatherette,  you can order our “Naked” trim level and DIY.

Quality Materials

The cabinet chassis is upgrade-able to Baltic Birch (Prefinished 13-Ply, 3/4″, 18mm), but is otherwise constructed with 3/4″* Pine 7-ply wood with an A-grade side for you to paint the exterior. The Baltic Birch features a solid Birch core and Birch veneers, which have few knots, and those are wooden patched instead of filled w/ putty like the imperfections on the 7-ply Pine.

Durable Portability

Unlike many manufacturers, we do not use any kind of particle board or mdf, as these fare poorly in the weather and/or at gigs or on the road since they can lose their shape, structural integrity, and strength if they get wet.  Beware as these manufacturers will advertise their “plywood baffle” while using structurally weaker materials elsewhere throughout the chassis.  Pine or other types on non plywood are not indicated for portable speaker enclosures because they are only strong against the grain of the wood.  The wood can split around fasteners, or under pressure applied with the grain of the wood. Plywood prevents these issues because the grain of each ply or layer of plywood runs opposite to the ply to which it is adhered.  Members of our design team have loaded vans after gigs and understand how equipment gets stacked and, occasionally (please don’t).. stood on.
